The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apologized to the Edo State government for the dispute at the Benin Airport yesterday.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Mr George Orisi said the dispute was regrettable and the misunderstanding was avoidable.
He also said he “was in the state to apologise for the misunderstanding and to ensure that such incidence is not repeated again”.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole said nothing in its actions suggests that the airport was targeted as the state had only embarked on enforcement of tax laws passed by the Federal Government.
He said his government is determined to enforce the tax laws because of his conviction to deliver on his electoral promises.
Earlier today, however, the Chairman of the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Oseni Elama revealed that 34 federal establishments were owing the state a total of N2 billion of unremitted Pay As You Earn (PAYE) taxes which accrued between 2009 and 2012.
